The comedians who brought you The Chaser’s War on Everything are returning to commercial radio for the first time in 11 years.
Radio station Triple M will today unveil a new drive show that will feature The Chaser’s Andrew Hansen, Charles Firth and Dom Knight.
Fellow satirists Chas Licciardello, Craig Reucassel and Chris Taylor – who has been busy filming a new ABC TV show – will also make regular appearances behind the microphone.
The show will be broadcast on Triple M Sydney between 3pm and 4pm, similar to Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little’s early drive timeslot on sister stations 2Day and Fox FM.
Firth told Fairfax Media he felt sorry for his early drive rivals, who got “conned” into doing an extra half-hour of radio than The Chaser team.
“It’s been so nostalgic working together again,” he said. “I’d forgotten how much we hate each other.”
Hansen, meanwhile, said it was good to be back on Triple M. Southern Cross Austereo’s chief content officer Guy Dobson hired the Chaser boys for their first mainstream media gig back in 2001.
“It [Triple M Sydney] was absolutely our first choice after Nova, KIIS, Smooth, 2WS, the SBS Arabic station, and the Townsville tourist information transmitter all turned us down,” he said.
While most known for their television skits, The Chaser boys are no strangers to radio, having done a brief show on Triple M in Sydney in 2006 as well as regular appearances on Triple J over the years. Their Triple M Sydney drive show will kick off in 2018.
Friday’s announcement bookends an eventful week in commercial radio, with KIIS FM’s lineup tipped on its head and drive stars Hughesy and Kate announcing they were jumping over to 2Day and Fox FM to head up a national drive show straight after Carrie and Tommy rush off to their Network Ten hosting duties.
